J.R., some of those "patriots" equate cutting taxes and gutting government with patriotism. Any damned fool who punches those buttons will get their votes. Jack, Duckworth would indeed be the good choice in any district. Demeur, it's so true about turnout and motivation. As I said in the post, Duckworth lost in '06 by only 2 percent. You can bet Walsh's supporters will bother to vote.

I took note of the superb candidacy of Tammy Duckworth long ago, and still urge all sensible Illinois 8th district voters to send that abusive and ignorant deadbeat tyrant Joe Walsh packing for good! Duckworth would be the ideal candidate for nearly every district in the country!

Dave, I have a candidate better than the Republican incumbent. I don’t know yet how he would compare to Duckworth. I, too, wish you had a candidate that outstanding.

Tom, if you Google his name or search Think Progress, you’ll find that my post only hit the high spots. He should be so politically radioactive that few independents and no women, not even Republican women, would ever vote for him again. Unfortunately, there are tea partyers and other resenters who think he’s their kind of guy.

Democratic strategists need to play up Walsh’s refusal to pay $100,000 in child support, and play it up some more. The “family values” demagogues don’t care about stuff like that (as long as Walsh isn’t gay), but some of their constituents probably do. From everything I’ve seen or heard about Walsh, he sounds like a completely despicable lowlife, regardless of his political leanings.

I pretty much agree with Shaw but worry about people becoming anesthetized to this kind of talk as well as those on the fringes being attracted to it and deciding to act on it.

I actually think it’s a good idea to let the crazies in the Tea Party and GOP get all the publicity they can garner. I wish they had more exposure rather than less.

We sometimes forget that they are a minority, and that their association with the GOP is a bad thing. Crazies like Scott Boston [I'm so ashamed his name is the same as the city I live in.] will expose Independents and moderates to the rot within the GOP. The fact that the GOP doesn’t disassociate itself from these fanatics will work against Republicans.

The GOP has become the party of crackpots.
